Kia ora!
We’re Hana and Pete from New Zealand. We both hail from Wellington originally but we’ve made sunny Hawke’s Bay our home since 2017.
We own a 1967 Chevrolet Impala sedan and enjoy cruising around with our kids and going to car shows and events.
Our ‘go-to’ event is the monthly meetup in Napier, Hawke’s Bay, “Cruise on the Parade“ run by our car club Roaming Chrome HB Inc. It’s held on the first Sunday of the month and, if the weather is good, can attract 300+ cars. After attending a few of these meetups, we found we were wanting to learn a bit more about the cars at the show and we thought maybe the general public might too.
That’s when the idea for ShowCarQR first started to take shape, way back in July 2024.
Hana is a Librarian by trade, and has been in the field for 20 years, connecting people with the information they’re seeking. She loves connecting with people and getting to know their story. Pete’s the techie in this partnership, with 30 years experience in the IT sector and tech industry including the digital identity space.
Utilising our combined skill sets, we decided we wanted a simple way for car owners to share their vehicle’s story — not just the make and model, but what makes it special. Whether it’s a restoration project, race car, a family heirloom, or something you’ve always dreamed of owning, we believe every car has a story worth telling.
So we built ShowCarQR — a tool that lets car owners create a unique online profile for their vehicle, and connect it to a QR code that can be scanned at shows and events.
Our goal is to make it easy and enjoyable for car lovers, curious visitors, and future enthusiasts to connect with the stories behind the chrome. It’s also a way for owners to speak for their car when they’re not standing right next to it.
We’ve had awesome feedback from our local club (Roaming Chrome) and other car fans, and we’re excited to keep developing the platform — with new features, more templates, and support for car shows and clubs across the country and beyond!
Thanks for supporting ShowCarQR. We hope you enjoy using it as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it.
Ngā mihi,
Hana & Pete
